Univer — Frequently Asked Questions

Quick, clear answers about Univer — the exclusive dating app for verified students at Israeli universities. If your question isn't here, get in touch.

What is Univer?

Univer is a free dating app exclusively for verified university students in Israel. Every account is verified via a .ac.il university email — guaranteeing a real, student-only community of students from 9 Israeli universities.

How do I sign up for Univer?

Visit univer.co.il or download the iOS/Android app, enter your university email (.ac.il), receive a 7-digit verification code, set up your profile, and you're in. No credit card required.

Is Univer free?

Yes. All core features — matching, messaging, Campus Crush, date invites — are completely free for verified students. No paywall, no ads, no hidden fees.

Is Univer legit? Is it a scam?

Univer is a real app operating in Israel. The community is verified via .ac.il university email, photos go through AI moderation, messages are encrypted, and there's an active reporting system. No bots, no fake accounts — just real students from real Israeli universities.

Which universities does Univer support?

Univer supports 9 institutions in Israel: Tel Aviv University, Technion, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, University of Haifa, Bar-Ilan University, Reichman University, Weizmann Institute of Science, and the Open University of Israel.

Is Univer safe?

Yes. Every account requires university email verification — no fake accounts. All photos go through AI moderation, all messages are encrypted, and there's an active reporting system. Students only — no bots, no fakes.

What is Campus Crush?

Campus Crush is a Univer-exclusive super-like with a limited daily quota. When you send a Campus Crush to a student you're into, they see exactly who sent it and know you're really interested — a much stronger signal than a regular like. (Campus Crush is distinct from Whisper, which is a note you can leave anonymously on a student's profile.)

What is Whisper?

Whisper lets you leave a short note on another student's profile. You can post it anonymously or with your name attached. The recipient chooses which whispers appear on their profile and in what order. It's a public-facing endorsement layer — separate from messaging and separate from Campus Crush.

What is the Cupid feature?

Cupid is a question-based matching feature for deeper connections. You answer thoughtful questions, and the algorithm pairs you with a compatible student — a separate path from the regular swipe-based discover. Built for students who want something with more depth than a typical swipe app.

Is Univer available in Hebrew?

Yes. Univer is fully available in Hebrew (עברית) and English. The interface supports RTL and LTR, and you can switch languages anytime.

How is Univer different from Tinder or Bumble?

Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge are open to everyone. Univer is open only to students with a .ac.il email from one of 9 Israeli universities. Univer is also completely free (no paywall), ad-free, and includes unique features like Campus Crush and built-in date invites.

What happens after I graduate?

Univer access depends on having an active university email (.ac.il). At most Israeli universities the address stays active through master's, PhD, and often for a period as alumni — and as long as your email is active, you can keep using Univer. Once the university deactivates your email address, you can no longer sign in (verification codes go to that address).

How does university email verification work?

You enter your university email (e.g. user@tau.ac.il); we send a 7-digit code valid for 10 minutes. Once you verify, the app unlocks. We never ask for your university password and never connect to university systems — we only confirm you have an active .ac.il email.

Is my data private?

Yes. All messages are encrypted, identifying fields (name, email, date of birth) are encrypted in our database, and we never sell data. You can delete your account anytime and your data is removed in accordance with privacy law.

Which devices does Univer support?

Univer is available as an iOS app, an Android app, and on the web at univer.co.il (desktop + mobile). Your account is available on every device — messages and matches sync in real time.

I'm an exchange / international student — can I use Univer?

Yes, as long as you have an .ac.il email at a supported Israeli university. Exchange students who receive a university domain account can sign up exactly like local students.

How do I report someone?

Every profile and conversation has a Report button. Choose the category (offensive behavior, spam, fake profile, etc.), add details if you want, and we'll handle it. Reports are anonymous. For an emergency or urgent safety issue, contact us directly.

Can I change my preferred university?

During signup you verify yourself through one university (the one tied to your .ac.il email), but you can configure discovery preferences to include students from other Israeli universities. This lets you meet students from nearby campuses or anywhere in the country.

Is Univer worth it?

Univer is fully free, student-verified, and ad-free — there's no risk in trying. If you're a student at an Israeli university and want to meet real people from your campus without bots or paywalls, Univer is built exactly for that.

Who founded Univer?

Univer was founded in Israel by a student who saw how existing dating apps don't fit the Israeli student experience. The product is built for students, in Hebrew and English.
